Northumberland.
England's Most Tranquil Area.

My name is Claire and Im a poet living in Kent (once regarded as the Garden of England, but today more like the Motorway of England). I am writing a book of poetry based on Northumberland, her people and places and I came across your site a little while ago; I cannot believe how stunning the county is. I lived in north Wales for a number of years and didnt think that anywhere could come close to repeating or even bettering the beauty of that lovely place but Northumberland has. I am writing the book under my pen name of E.V. Rose and it will be a not for profit book. Id like to give your site a mention in my acknowledgements if thats ok with you because your photographs have inspired some lovely poems. (Once the book is complete Ill send you a copy if youd like one).
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be in Northumberland even when Im away.
Many thanks again, keep this site going, it is lovely.
Claire

"In Northumberland alone, both heaven and earth are seen; We walk all day on long ridges, high enough to give far views of moors and valley and the sense of solitude far below.......
It is the land of far horizons.."
George Macaulay Trevelyan.

I am hoping to make it over to Northumberland this summer...not sure (difficult work issues at the moment) but will check out the B & Bs (any hints appreciated). However, perhaps next year...very, very badly need a Northie moor land, curlew and sheep fix!
Great site -- keep it up.
Best wishes

Great Tosson.
I live in Southern California now, but am originally from Prudhoe in Northumberland. It does my soul good to see these wonderful pictures and remember the beautiful countryside once again.
Thank you so much.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings.
Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you
while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
John Muir.

Pours the spring it's earliest green
Upon Hosedon still?
Are the milk-white hawthorns seen
Upon Hosedon still?
Does the tall and grove-like broom,
With it's moist and yellow bloom,
Shed a glory and perfume
Upon Hosedon still?
Rests the light and downy cloud
Upon Hosedon still?
Is the sky-lark's carol loud
Upon Hosedon still?
Is the cuckoo seldom dumb?
And the wild bees, do they come,
As of old, to sip and hum
Upon Hosedon still?

Heatherland and bent land
Black land and white
God bring me to Northumberland
The land of my delight
Land of singing waters
And words from off the sea
God bring me to Northumberland
The land where I would be
Heather land and bent land
And valley rich with corn
God bring me to Northumberland
The land where I was born.
Wilfred Gibson. (1878-1962)

Feeling a little glum today I decided to go stumbling (as in
Stumpleupon.com), I was delighted when a site came up of photos of
the english countryside. After twenty minutes I feel as though I
have been on a wonderful drive in the country, and what gorgeous
countryside Northumberland has. Your photos have evoked so many
happy memories of walking in the English countryside, smelling the
distinctive scent of England and I would like nothing more right now
than to be there, sitting in one of those fields watching the clouds.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful photos....
